At SWU TEFL, we believe that the best way to learn how to teach English as a foreign language is by teaching it. Our program includes many different opportunities to gain real teaching experience is a variety of situations, culminating in an actual full time job at a Thai school.
During the training portion of the course, you will:
• Plan, with trainer guidance, and teach lessons to students studying at Srinakharinwirot University. A trainer will observe you, and give you personalized feedback on what you did well, and how you might improve your lesson. Each trainee will teach at least two of these lessons in the first portion of the course.
• Design and run 2 separate English camps, with the help of a trainer and the rest of the class. This will give you a chance to create fun activities and learn how they work by putting them into practice. The first camp is for University students, and the second will be a mixture of primary and secondary students.
• Visit 3 separate schools, and observe classes by foreign teachers at those schools. You will see a primary school, an anuban (kindergarten) school, and a secondary school.
• Substitute for one day for a foreign teacher at one of these schools. The teacher will be present in the class, and will guide you through the process of teaching his or her planned lessons for the day, as well as giving you additional feedback and their own perspective on teaching in Thailand.
It is our hope that these experiences will be more instructive than any textbook or class on teaching methods, because you will see and participate in real classes, with full support and guidance from experienced teachers. We believe the best way to expand your scope as a teacher is to watch and listen carefully, and learn from both the teachers and the students.
